KONA are well respected brand from Canada.

They are normally associated with mountain bikes and have a very good heritage in producing exceptional bikes throughout their range.

They have been producing road bikes for a number of years and their ‘Jake the Snake’ cyclocross bike was often considered the ‘Go To’ CX bike such was it’s quality. It was often used at pro level so became a good foundation for their road bikes.

Amongst their range of road bikes were models like the Zing (carbon road bike); Paddy Wagon (single speed); and ‘Lisa’ – which was their women’s specific bike. They also made a carbon version of the bike as well as TT bike too. All of these models were very well spec’d and was often considered a far better alternative to women’s specific bikes from Specialized, Giant or Trek.

The high spec and good quality frame material was one of the reasons why these bikes were preferred to the bikes from larger manufacturers, with the Kona being made from very good quality Italian Dedacciai alloy.

This particular bike has an improved spec as we have upgraded the brake calipers as well as the saddle and tyres; the latter both being brand new. The brake calipers are OE spec modern 105 quality from Shimano. They are a great upgrade over the poorer standard Tektro calipers.

Along with the better brakes the bike comes fitted with aftermarket cross-top safety brakes from Cane Creek. These brakes offer additional braking from on-top of the handlebars thus allowing the rider more alternatives when using the brakes. These brakes are often an essential option for riders new to cycling. Not only can you apply the brakes from the bars but it gives riders more confidence when riding. With the added benefit with better calipers the combination of both upgrades makes riding the bike much easier.

The bike comes fitted with an almost full Shimano 105 groupset, that includes a very versatile triple chainset – thus offering a huge range of gears. It is fitted with Mavic’s excellent Aksium wheels that are shod with brand new (colour co-ordinated) Hutchinson Atom tyres.

The finishing kit is mainly FSA and as mentioned previously the bike now has a comfy WTB ‘Kona’ saddle.

Replacement Tenn outdoors bar tape complete the refurbishment.
